Skynet is on its way! "Imagine a world where robots have their own internet and are able to share information and learn everything they need to know from each other. Sounds a bit far fetched no? Well brace yourself because that day has arrived.
RoboEarth is just that. RoboEarth was started by European scientists to provide robots with their very own internet communication system, a bit like Wikipedia for us mere mortals.
Sounds innocent enough, but what are the implications of such a thing? I mean imagine, Robots will be communicating with each other en-masse for the very first time. Where will it end?
RoboEarth researcher Dr Markus Waibel from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich told the BBC that RoboEarth will allow robots around the world to exchange knowledge and learn from the information they access.
“Most current robots see the world their own way and there’s very little standardisation going on” said Waibel. “The key is allowing robots to share knowledge. That’s really new” he said."
