Man & machine - Opinions: "Within the next 30 years, immortality could become a reality. This eerie thought is not the beginning to a science fiction novel, or from a hokey 1950s movie's vision of the future. It is the topic of the cover story for this week's TIME Magazine.
'2045: The Year Man Becomes Immortal,' the headline reads, and the story inside is even more disturbing.
Artificial intelligence, also known as the Singularity movement, has quite a following. For some reason or another, people are excited by the thought that a computer moving at incredibly rapid speeds may not only replace us, but become one with us, despite all those movies depicting supposedly friendly robots turning murderous because of system glitches."
