It's obvious that playing near a black hole can only end in tears. Now, a new study may have shed light on why many black holes are shrouded in a thick, choking doughnut of dust. The doughnut may be a result of planetary bodies being smashed and ground-up after being flung from their parent stars.
But it's not all doom and gloom, this planetary massacre may spawn new star birth in the centers of galaxies.
