augmented reality apps, privacy: "Tools that can translate a foreign street sign, cure your snake phobia, or let you shop for jeans at home are now available on a smartphone near you - but is there a creepy side to the tech phenomenon they call 'augmented reality'?
AR technology most commonly takes form in smartphone apps which add a layer of data or imagery onto real-life scenes captured through the camera of your mobile.
This means any public data that exists anywhere can be harnessed for applications like those that might help you remember where you parked your car or locate a nearby public toilet.
But it also means that your face could be matched to your social networking profile by a passer by, who might also discover exactly what you paid for your home, as you enter the front door.
As AR becomes more common, and the offline and online worlds merge seamlessly, privacy experts believe people will have no choice than to get used to being constantly recorded or scanned by devices."
