But where's the farmer? Robot tractor plants and harvests on its own - and even avoids cows

'Robot' workers have replaced human beings in many industries - in fact, it's difficult to imagine a car factory without robot arms doing the heavy lifting.

But 'autonomous' machines have largely stayed away from traditional farms - until now.

Video from Kinze Manufacturing Inc (below) shows a 'robot tractor'  capable of planting crops all on its own, while steering out of the way of fence posts, vehicles and even farm animals. It can even work at night.

But the American company insists that its aim is not to put farmers out of business.
