US experts fear 'Chernobyl-like' crisis for Japan

US experts fear 'Chernobyl-like' crisis for Japan

WASHINGTON - US nuclear experts warned Saturday that pumping sea water to cool a quake-hit Japanese nuclear reactor was an "act of desperation" that may foreshadow a Chernobyl-like disaster.
Several experts, in a conference call with reporters, also predicted that regardless of the outcome at the Fukushima No. 1 atomic plant crisis, the accident will seriously damage the nuclear power renaissance."The situation has become desperate enough that they apparently don't have the capability to deliver fresh water or plain water to cool the reactor andstabilize it, and now, in an act of desperation, are having to resort to diverting and using sea water," said Robert Alvarez, who works on nuclear disarmament at the Institute for Policy Studies. "I would describe this measure as a 'Hail Mary' pass," added Alvarez, using American football slang for a final effort to win the game as time expires.

Japan Earthquake And Tsunami Caused By "Solar Flare"?

Japan Earthquake And Tsunami Caused By "Solar Flare"

Japanese media reported at least 1,000 people are presumed dead from Friday's massive 8.9 earthquake, most drowned by Tsunami that swept across the northeast coast of the island nation.

And its not only a coincidence that it happened exactly after 24 hours Solar flare hit Earth. According to NASA website March 9th ended with a powerful solar flare. Earth-orbiting satellites detected anX1.5-class explosion from behemoth sunspot 1166 around 2323 UT. A movie from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (above) shows a bright flash of UV radiation plus some material being hurled away from the blast site.

What is going on with all this recent solar activity?
After four years without any X-flares, the sun has produced two of the powerful blasts in less than one month: Feb. 15th and March 9th. This continues the recent trend of increasing solar activity associated with our sun's regular 11-year cycle, and confirms that Solar Cycle 24 is indeed heating up, as solar experts have expected. Solar activity will continue to increase as the solar cycle progresses toward solar maximum, expected in the 2013 time frame.

Devastation and despair: Terrifying pictures reveal full horror of Japan's worst quake

Japanese rescue workers, emergency services and army units are fighting to save lives and contain the damage after the sixth most powerful earthquake in recorded history struck the island nation yesterday.
More than 1,000 are feared dead after the quake, which measured 9.0 on the Richter scale, shook buildings to their foundations, opened up cracks in the ground and sent a 33ft tsunami crashing on the the north-east coast.

Stranded survivors desperately tried to call for help by writing SOS signs across the roofs of the few undamaged buildings where they have taken shelter, while others surveyed the devastation, stunned.
Fires continue to burn unabated across large parts of the country as damaged oil refineries and gas works billow black smoke into the sky.

A Perfect Storm of GMOs, Chemicals and Cancer

A Perfect Storm of GMOs, Chemicals and Cancer

Several books, including Seeds of Destruction and Corrupt to the Core, along with the film, The Idiot Cycle, lay out the framework for and evidence of a concerted effort to sicken and then treat humanity, while earning obscene profits. When we factor in other recent actions taken by transnational corporations and lawmakers, the conspiracy adopts a more ominous tone.

Authors William Engdahl and Shiv Chopra appear in Emmanuelle Schick Garcia’s powerful film, The Idiot Cycle: What you aren’t being told about cancer. Both writers provide detailed evidence of a corporate-government conspiracy to adulterate the food and water supply with dangerous substances linked to a host of illnesses. The Case Against Fluoride, a book using hundreds of peer-reviewed studies, provides more evidence. In David Gumpert’sRaw Milk Revolution, we get a peek at the US government’s war on the natural dairy industry.

Genetic engineered foods carry risks, with those rewards

Genetic engineered foods carry risks, with those rewards

It is true that all throughout history, even before humans, some sort of selective breeding has existed. However, in nature, genes are not intentionally moved, eliminated, or combined to change or improve a food. That’s going beyond selective breeding; that’s playing with nature’s building blocks. Some people say that this is good, that it’s a great step for mankind, and that this could be the way of the future. I don’t think so.
Genetic engineering isn’t as modern as it sounds. The modern genetic engineering began nearly thirty years ago in 1973 when two scientists, Herbert Boyer and Stanley Cohen, used enzymes to cut a part of a bacteria’s DNA and replace it with another, similar, bacteria’s DNA. Thus the beginnings of modern genetic engineering.

Batteries Could Power Gizmos for Months, Thanks to New Memory Tech

URBANA, Ill. –  Engineers claimed Friday that they discovered a way to significantly prolong battery life, meaning that cell phones and laptops could run for months without having to be recharged.

The University of Illinois researchers said they developed a form of ultra-low-power digital memory that could extend battery life by up to 100 times, by replacing metal wires in the devices' memories, which use up most of their battery power, with so-called nanotubes -- carbon tubes 10,000 times smaller than a human hair.

Could big quake happen here? Yes

Could big quake happen here? Yes

As the world tunes in to the disaster following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan today — and with waves rattling nerves along the U.S. West Coast and Hawaii — a question rises to the fore: Could such a disaster happen here?
The short answer is yes. It already has. Major quakes of a similar style rupture along the 680-mile-long Cascadia subduction zone, a fault that runs from Northern California to British Columbia, every few hundred years. They trigger tsunami waves reaching up to 15 feet high that hit the shore about 10 to 15 minutes later.
The fault last ruptured in 1700 – a magnitude-9 event that sent tsunami waves crashing into Japan. Experts believe it is a matter of when, not if, the next one will happen, according to Brian Atwater, a geologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and the University of Washington and an expert on the 1700 event.

WARNING–DON’T READ BEFORE SLEEP!!! Reader's Experience at Dulce Base

Reader's Experience at Dulce Base
Lon, I read the letter you posted recently about the Dulce Labs genetics experiments and wanted to share my experiences with your readers. When I was an undergraduate studying genetics in the mid-1970s, I did a 10-month internship at Dulce Labs. My primary duties were on level 1, that is where I spent almost all of my time. But once a week I accompanied one of the junior researchers to levels 5, 6, and 7 to collect data tapes and other documentation. I never got past the "clear zone" on those levels, but on a couple occasions I heard inhuman shrieks and wailing noises on level 6. I was told that level 6 was a psychiatric facility for especially disturbed patients, and that they were known to have emotional outbursts….

UFO mystery deepens

UFO mystery deepens

MARYBOROUGH’S UFO phenomenon remains unsolved after government authorities and weather experts yesterday failed to explain strange orange lights sighted by hundreds of residents during the past week.

The Chronicle was bombarded with phone calls, emails and visitors all day yesterday after publishing a story on the hovering objects, which appeared in the night sky above the city last Thursday, Friday, Saturday and yesterday.

While all residents had similar descriptions of the glowing balls of light and their slow movements back and forth across the sky, the story did take quite an eerie twist – no one was able to successfully capture the unidentified objects with a camera.

PLANET X-EGESIS - Part 7

Planet X, the Sign of the Son of Man, and the End of the Age
In my book, Planet X, the Sign of the Son of Man, and the End of the Age, I detail how God used Planet X, a previously unknown (or, more accurately, forgotten) planet in our solar system, to strike the primordial Earth with one of its satellites and move Earth to a new orbit closer to the Sun. In the process, much of Earth's mantle was left hanging in space to form the asteroid belt. Some of this material also remained in orbit around Earth, forming the Moon, and still other, larger fragments combined with water from Earth’s mantle to form the comets. This mysterious "Planet X", the "X" meaning "unknown", has been the subject of an intensive search by the astronomical community for over a century….

The New Overlords

Man and technology are evolving together in radical new ways

CAN machines surpass humans in intelligence? People were shocked in 1997 when IBM’s Deep Blue computer beat Garry Kasparov, a Russian grandmaster, at chess. But winning a board game is a trivial task compared with understanding the complexities and idiosyncrasies of human speech. The company has now developed Watson, a supercomputer it thinks is capable of understanding “natural language”.

The Cylons Are Coming: Ultra-Realistic Android Will Haunt You

Every once in a while a video comes around showing off the latest advancements in robot technology and human-like androids being created every day. For we geeks, it can’t be helped but to assume such advancements are just another step toward the machines rising up, taking over, and killing us all much like we saw in Battlestar Galactica with the Cylons or in The Terminator movies.
Over the past couple of years we’ve seen some pretty ridiculous androids that looked way too realistic for our own comfort, but today we have one that puts them ALL to shame.
Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce Geminoid DK, an android modeled after Associate Professor Henrik Scharfe of Aalborg University in Denmark. What you’re about to see will likely do one of two things: explode your brain or cause you to weep uncontrollably in the fetal position. Mine was the latter.
Click on over to the other side now to see some videos of Geminoid DK.

Meet the spider with a human face

Since 1890 only 41 one of them have ever been seen in Britain – and it’s not surprising, because they’re only the size of a 20p piece and blend into lichen on tree trunks, hence their name.

Wareham RSPB nature reserve worker Mark Singleton said: ‘This is the first one that has been found in Dorset in 35 years.

'It is something of a rarity. If this were a bird, the queues would be stretching round the car park. But it's not,  it's a spider with a slightly amusing abdomen.

"Sleeping" Volcanoes Can Wake Up Faster Than Thought

The world's "sleeping giants" can wake up much quicker than thought, according to a new volcano model.
Scientists believe the magma chambers—or reservoirs of molten rock—under dormant volcanoes are filled with sticky, viscous mush. For a volcano to "wake up," this mush needs to be thoroughly heated by fresh, hot magma rising up from the deep Earth. According to current theory, it would take several hundred or perhaps a thousand years for the heat to distribute through the chamber and make the magma fluid enough to erupt. But a new model based on fluid dynamics shows that hot, deep magma can mix with the older, sticky stuff much easier than believed, scientists say.

This Time We’re Taking the Whole Planet With Us

This Time We’re Taking the Whole Planet With Us

I have walked through the barren remains of Babylon in Iraq and the ancient Roman city of Antioch, the capital of Roman Syria, which now lies buried in silt deposits. I have visited the marble ruins of Leptis Magna, once one of the most important agricultural centers in the Roman Empire, now isolated in the desolate drifts of sand southeast of Tripoli. I have climbed at dawn up the ancient temples in Tikal, while flocks of brightly colored toucans leapt through the jungle foliage below. I have stood amid the remains of the ancient Egyptian city of Luxor along the Nile, looking at the statue of the great Egyptian pharaoh Ramesses II lying broken on the ground, with Percy Shelley’s poem “Ozymandias” running through my head:

“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away….

The New Eugenics: Selecting for Intelligence–Or, What’s Love Got to do With It, Julian Savulescu?

The New Eugenics: Selecting for Intelligence–Or, What’s Love Got to do With It, Julian Savulescu

Eugenics is both profoundly wrong and extremely dangerous in that it divides human beings into better and worse categories, which leads to great evil; oppression, exploitation, and killing.

We saw that with the first eugenics, invented by the English statistician Francis Galton, who posited a “good in birth” philosophy, which sought to increase the number of the “fit” (people like him) and decrease the so-called unfit. Galton promoted a “positive” eugenics, that is, one that urged the better people to procreate more bounteously, which he thought necessary to save society for the low lifes that threatened a demographic cultural destruction.

21 Signs Of Impending Doom For The 2011 Economy

21 Signs of Impending Doom for the 2011 Economy
The global economy is more interconnected than ever, and so a major crisis in one area of the world can have a cascading effect on the rest of the globe.  Just as we saw back in 2008, if financial disaster strikes nobody is going to escape completely unscathed.
So what should we expect for the rest of 2011?  Well, the truth is that it doesn't look good.  The following are 21 signs of impending doom for the 2011 economy....
#1 The civil war in Libya now looks like it could drag on for an extended period of time, and that is likely to drive the global price of oil even higher.
#2 Barack Obama is publicly saying that NATO is now considering "potential military options" for solving the crisis in Libya.
#3 Kuwait exports more oil than Libya does, and it looks like the civil unrest that has been sweeping the rest of the Middle East is now starting to spread to that country.
#4 In Saudi Arabia, protest groups are planning a "Day of Rage" on March 11th.  If a revolution breaks out in that nation the entire global economy is going to be thrown into turmoil.
#5 The average price of a gallon of gasoline in the United States increased by 33 cents during the two-week period that ended last Friday.
#6 According to the Oil Price Information Service, U.S. drivers spent an average of $347 on gasoline during the month of February, which was 30 percent more than a year earlier.

Inventor, futurist predicts dawn of total artificial intelligence - CNN.com

Inventor, futurist predicts dawn of total artificial intelligence - CNN.com: "In the year 2050, if Ray Kurzweil is right, nanoscopic robots will be zooming throughout our capillaries, transforming us into nonbiological humans. We will be able to absorb and retain the entirety of the universe's knowledge, eat as much as we want without gaining weight, shape-shift into just about any physical form imaginable, live free from disease and die at the time of our choosing. All of this will be thrust on us by something that Kurzweil calls the Singularity, a theorized point in time in the not-so-distant future when machines become vastly superior to humans in every way, aka the emergence of true artificial intelligence. Computers will be able to improve their own source codes and hardware in ways we puny humans could never conceive. This will result in a paradigm shift that sees mankind coalescing with its own creations: man and machine, merging into one."

Endowed by Their Creator?: The Future of Constitutional Personhood - Brookings Institution: "Presently, Irving Weissman, the director of Stanford University's Institute of Cancer/Stem Cell Biology and Medicine, is contemplating pushing the envelope of chimera research even further by producing human-mouse chimera whose brains would be composed of one hundred percent human cells. Weissman notes that the mice would be carefully watched: if they developed a mouse brain architecture, they would be used for research, but if they developed a human brain architecture or any hint of humanness, they would be killed."

Aquatic Humanoids: Progeny of the Black Lagoon or Alternate Evolution? | Mysterious Universe: "Since the dawn of time legends have sprung up across the globe regarding strange, fish-tailed, half-human hybrids which were said to dwell in the briny depths of the world’s oceans, but there is a lesser known phenomenon regarding a unique breed of bizarre, bipedal beasts, which eyewitnesses claim to have encountered near the freshwater lakes and rivers of North America. Creatures which some insist owe more to fertile imaginations of Hollywood effects artists than to Darwin’s Natural Selection."

Comments like (to paraphrase) 'Leave alien abductions out of UFO research,' or 'Abductions have nothing to do with the UFO phenomena.'

It may turn out that what we call alien abductions have nothing to do with UFOs, but for now, we have no idea what we loosely call alien abductions are. How can someone say that UFOs and abductions have nothing to do with each other? Thousands of accounts from witnesses that contain: aliens, UFOs, kidnapping. So far, the connection between UFO and alien abduction obvious."

Supermoon on the Way

Astrologer Richard Nolle says the March 19 Supermoon will cause major earthquakes or other disasters. Scientists are not expecting any major disasters from the supermoon. | Space.com: "On March 19, the moon will swing around Earth more closely than it has in the past 18 years, lighting up the night sky from just 221,567 miles (356,577 kilometers) away. On top of that, it will be full. And one astrologer believes it could inflict massive damage on the planet.

Richard Nolle, a noted astrologer who runs the website astropro.com, has famously termed the upcoming full moon at lunar perigee (the closest approach during its orbit) an 'extreme supermoon.'

When the moon goes super-extreme, Nolle says, chaos will ensue: Huge storms, earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural disasters can be expected to wreak havoc on Earth. (It should be noted that astrology is not a real science, but merely makes connections between astronomical and mystical events.)"

John Murray Spear's God Machine | Articles | Features | Fortean Times UK: "Frankenstein’s creation of a living being became a key image of modern science’s quest to unlock the secrets of life itself. But, in 1854, an experiment far stranger than anything in Mary Shelley’s novel took place when a New England clergyman married science and spiritualism in an attempt to build nothing less than a god. Robert Damon Schneck set out to discover why… and what happened to the metal deity."

UFOs and Hollywood: Blurring the Line between Fact and Fantasy: "For the purposes of this article we can define a ‘UFO movie’ as any motion picture that taps directly into any aspect of UFO mythology or notably draws inspiration from UFOlogical literature, incorporating into its plot references to frequently debated UFOlogical phenomena, events and locales, as well as specialised UFOlogical terminology. With this definition in mind, it’s safe to say that the first decade of the new millennium was witness to the release a dizzying array of Hollywood UFO movies. "

Aviation and the Unknown....

Inexplicata-The Journal of Hispanic Ufology: Aviation and the Unknown: "Much is made this day of the declassification of UFO material by some of the world’s air forces and civil aviation boards, but much of this openness surely mirrors the greater receptiveness toward the UFO subject in society at large. Pilots and workers in the aviation industry who stepped forward years ago with claims of the abnormal could find their flight status revoked or their employment terminated.

We can only imagine the fate of pilot Ricardo France of the LAN carrier, who spoke openly to Chile’s REVISTA VEA in January 1972 about being pursued by a flotilla of UFOs over a considerable length of Chilean territory for nearly 90 minutes. It is likely that he underwent rigorous investigation and medical checkups, even when four days after his experience, five hundred cars in the city of Tandil “were paralyzed by a flashing flying saucer” according to the same publication. These unbelievable cases form part of the collection of ufologist Liliana Núñez."

2,500-year-old solar observatory in Peru reveals advanced culture: "The wonderful archaeological discovery of recent years at Chankillo, Peru, is described by physicist Dr. Brian Cox in the BBC video linked below. As he describes and waits for the sun rising over the top of the hill, to be seen through the niches in the 2,500-year-old monument, Cox has a big grin, like this is the greatest thing he's ever seen.

We astrotheologians and archaeoastronomy afficionados agree! That's why we work so hard to bring attention to the world's great astrotheological traditions that go hand in hand with these fantastic monuments, proving that ancient man was far more advanced than is commonly perceived.

We also maintain that these astronomically aligned archaeological ruins found globally, along with the myths symbolizing the knowledge encased therein, represent very important artifacts that need to be preserved."

In response to this controversy, this article aims to clarify some of the ideas and motivations underlying the Manifesto, and the concept and movement of Transhuman Separatism.

Why an Intelligence Explosion is Probable

Why an Intelligence Explosion is Probable: "One of the earliest incarnations of the contemporary Singularity concept was I.J. Good’s concept of the “intelligence explosion,” articulated in 1965:

Let an ultraintelligent machine be defined as a machine that can far surpass all the intellectual activities of any man however clever. Since the design of machines is one of these intellectual activities, an ultraintelligent machine could design even better machines; there would then unquestionably be an ‘intelligence explosion,’ and the intelligence of man would be left far behind. Thus the first ultraintelligent machine is the last invention that man need ever make.

We consider Good’s vision quite plausible but, unsurprisingly, not all futurist thinkers agree. Skeptics often cite limiting factors that could stop an intelligence explosion from happening, and in a recent post on the Extropy email discussion list, the futurist Anders Sandberg articulated some of those possible limiting factors, in a particularly clear way..."

Software Progress Beats Moore's Law - NYTimes.com

Software Progress Beats Moore's Law - NYTimes.com: "One of the old jokes in computing is that what the hardware giveth, the software taketh away.

The biblical vernacular is meant to convey the commandmentlike certainty of a set order of things. And the implication of the old saw is that chip-based progress is torrid and the engine of computing innovation, while the messy, unpredictable process of humans writing code is the laggard — the caboose of the innovation train.

In reporting a Sunday Week in Review piece, I was pointed to research that sharply contradicts the conventional wisdom. It did not find its way into the more general article, but the research was intriguing, I thought, and its implication not widely appreciated.

A report by an independent group of science and technology advisers to the White House, published last December, cited research showing that performance gains in doing computing tasks that result from improvements in software algorithms often far outpace the gains attributable to faster processors."

Tracking Software Uses Reasoning to Figure Out Who and Where You Are | Popular Science

Tracking Software Uses Reasoning to Figure Out Who and Where You Are | Popular Science: "Researchers at SUNY Buffalo and Amrita University in India have managed to create a tracking network that works well even with the cheapest of cameras. How? It uses the power of its cold, rational brain to make up for any flaws in the equipment.

The idea behind the software was to eliminate the need for other, more physical forms of tracking, like RFID (or, in the future, RFID's more powerful brother, NFC), but using artificial intelligence to supplement mid- or even low-end cameras. Simply recognizing a face from a security camera is no joke--people can look vastly different day to day, and there are all kinds of variables (angle, lighting, clothing, posture) that can throw off the effectiveness of that kind of software. But what if said software could make certain rational assumptions?"

Canadian defence scientists probe ‘biometrics of intent’

Canadian defence scientists probe ‘biometrics of intent’: "OTTAWA — Canadian defence researchers are investigating how brain signals might distinguish hostile intent from everyday emotions such as anger and fear.

Though there is still much to learn, the goal is to push biometric science beyond identification techniques to a new frontier where covert security technology would secretly scan peoples’ minds to determine whether they harbour malicious intent.

“This ability can be used by members of the military and the security forces to isolate adversaries prior to commission of actions,” according to a research paper posted on the federal government’s Defence Research and Development Canada website last week.

The concept resembles Steven Spielberg’s 2002 sci-fi thriller Minority Report, in which police in 2054 apprehend criminals based on a foreknowledge of crimes yet to be committed."

Scientists say that magnetic north, which for two centuries has been in the icy wilderness of Canada, is currently relocating towards Russia at a rate of about 40 miles a year. The speed of its movement has increased by a third in the past decade, prompting speculation that the field could be about to 'flip', causing compasses to invert and point south rather than north, something that happens between three and seven times every million years."

Parallel Universes and Corpse Brains: Source Code Takes Science on a Trip | Underwire | Wired.com

Parallel Universes and Corpse Brains: Source Code Takes Science on a Trip | Underwire | Wired.com: "In upcoming sci-fi flick Source Code, an Iraq War veteran uses “time reassignment” technology to crack open alternate realities in an effort to stop a terrorist from blowing up Chicago. While the premise sounds outlandish, it’s actually based on principles of quantum physics, according to Source Code scribe Ben Ripley.

“More and more, modern physics is becoming comfortable with the possibility of parallel universes,” Ripley said in an e-mail interview with Wired.com. “Source Code imagines a practical application for them.”

The ancient notion of parallel universes, rooted in fables and mythic fantasy tales, continues to play a key role in modern movies and TV shows like Fringe and J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek reboot. But in Source Code, director Duncan Jones (Moon) takes the alt-world conceit in a new direction, with actor Jake Gyllenhaal portraying slipstreaming soldier Colter Stevens.

Screenwriter Ripley said he took pains to avoid sci-fi’s typical time-travel paradoxes in the movie, which screens next month at the South by Southwest film festival in Austin, Texas. In Source Code, he said, “What’s done is done and cannot be undone.”"

BBC News - 'Light sheets' image life in 3D: "A report in Nature Methods describes how 'light sheets' allow researchers to take images of cellular processes in action, in unprecedented detail.

These slivers of light illuminate just the part of a living cell that is in focus, and 3D images are made from many of these thin planes stacked up.

The approach could provide a previously unachievable view of living things."

The Book of Enoch on Extraterrestrials, page 1

The Book of Enoch on Extraterrestrials, page 1: "The Book of Enoch is one of those books that almost made it into the Bible but was then rejected as 'apocryphal', even though Enoch and the book itself are mentioned and referred to several times in the Bible. The only people who accept the book as an official part of their holy scriptures are Ethiopian Jews and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and a few more obscure religious groups around the world. Official sources say the book was written 300 B.C. but since it is ascribed to Enoch, the great-grandfather of Noah, some speculate that it was written before the great flood."

Indian Chandrayaan-1 Discovered Giant Chamber On The Moon

Indian Chandrayaan-1 Discovered Giant Chamber On The Moon: "But it has also discovered a massive underground chamber near the moon's equator, one that would be perfect for housing a moon base.

Discovered by the Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, chamber is more than one mile long and 393 feet wide. There would be lots of benefits of building a moon base in there, mainly for protection from the nastiness of the surface of the moon. It'd provide a nearly constant temperature of -4 degrees Fahrenheit, unlike the surface, which fluctuates between 266 degrees and -292 degrees. And it would provide protection from radiation, micro-meteor impacts and dust."

Thought-Controlled Cars Don’t Require Steering Wheel | Future Cars | Human Brain | LiveScience: "Car steering wheels could someday become obsolete thanks to a new technology that would let drivers control their vehicles with brain waves.

While not yet ready for prime time, the research team sees applications that include a driverless taxi that lets the passenger select the route simply by thinking it.

The driver would wear a headset complete with sensors that measure electrical activity of the brain and an interface that connects the brain waves to a computer-controlled vehicle. Special software and calibration would allow the interface to convert the brain waves into a driving direction."

UFO Spiral Mystery 2011: "RealmLeaper, the name of the YouTube account uploading these amazing Spiral Videos, has been a member since Summer 2010 and active for about a month or so, with 12 uploads in the account - most dealing with UFOs. The self-description of RL channels says:
Before we can expand the universe, we must first expand our minds. Any and Every object you can think of or imagine is possible in our universe. From the bioluminescence of deep ocean creatures to prehistoric pterodactyls flying overhead. Respect life and the space around it for you will be part of it again one day. Material was once one with the Universe and that material was alive. Without life the universe would not exist, it would be an empty void without a purpose.
Anyway, I do not know how this person is coming up with these vids, but, today's UDCC brings you is indeed - excellent - and has NEW implications perhaps. This one purports to show a UFO (and indeed, one can see 3 and at times 4 points of light ahead of the missile) before it goes awry. (under 2,000 views)

Cloned Meat -- Consumers shall have no choice | testbiotech

Consumers shall have no choice | testbiotech: "A non-public EU Commission paper confirms that food from offsprings of cloned animals are already on the European market. The animals get into the market via the import of breeding material from the US. The EU Trade Commission argues that in future too these products should not be regulated, labelled or controlled for unexpected risks, because so far no systems have been established for registering the animals in exporting countries such as the US. If the EU Commission succeeds, consumers within the EU will not get any information about these products like milk and meat, despite a high level of consumer rejection of cloning of animals for food production."

NASA Scientist Claims Evidence of Alien Life on Meteorite - FoxNews.com

Exclusive: NASA Scientist Claims Evidence of Alien Life on Meteorite - FoxNews.com: "We are not alone in the universe -- and alien life forms may have a lot more in common with life on Earth than we had previously thought.

That's the stunning conclusion one NASA scientist has come to, releasing his groundbreaking revelations in a new study in the March edition of the Journal of Cosmology.

Dr. Richard B. Hoover, an astrobiologist with NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, has traveled to remote areas in Antarctica, Siberia, and Alaska, amongst others, for over ten years now, collecting and studying meteorites. He gave FoxNews.com early access to the out-of-this-world research, published late Friday evening in the March edition of the Journal of Cosmology. In it, Hoover describes the latest findings in his study of an extremely rare class of meteorites, called CI1 carbonaceous chondrites -- only nine such meteorites are known to exist on Earth.

Though it may be hard to swallow, Hoover is convinced that his findings reveal fossil evidence of bacterial life within such meteorites, the remains of living organisms from their parent bodies -- comets, moons and other astral bodies. By extension, the findings suggest we are not alone in the universe, he said."

These statements are based on eyewitness accounts of ET technology that nobody in the science community at the time would have thought possible..."

Wars, Rumors Of Wars, Skyrocketing Oil Prices And Global Economic Chaos – Why Is All Of This Happening?

Wars, Rumors Of Wars, Skyrocketing Oil Prices And Global Economic Chaos – Why Is All Of This Happening?: "Did anyone out there anticipate that 2011 would be such a wild year? The year is barely over two months old and we have already seen multiple civil wars erupt, rumors of more wars all over the mainstream media (potentially even including the United States), riots and revolutions breaking out all over the globe, oil prices soaring into the stratosphere and chaos on global financial markets. So why is all of this happening? Is all of this one big coincidence or is there a reason why we are witnessing such global chaos right now? Is it just coincidence that revolutions have broken out in over a dozen countries in the Middle East all at the same time? Is it just a coincidence that global prices for oil, food and precious metals are all skyrocketing? Is it just a coincidence that world financial markets suddenly seem more vulnerable than at any time since 2008? Looking at what is going on in the world right now, it is very tempting to use the phrase 'a perfect storm' to describe it. Unfortunately, this 'perfect storm' is very likely to plunge the global economy into yet another financial collapse if it continues to get even worse."

Outside View: Three horsemen of the new apocalypse - UPI.com

Outside View: Three horsemen of the new apocalypse - UPI.com: "WASHINGTON, March 2 (UPI) -- What a world! Much of North Africa remains roiled with mass protests against autocratic or crazed leaders. One predictable result has been skyrocketing oil prices with potentially adverse consequences for recovering economies. And, in the United States, a possible shutdown of government looms because America's two political parties prefer to indulge in a game of 'chicken' a la Washington not Kiev.

These events have been triggered by three, not four, horsemen of a future apocalypse that may be closer than we think. These horsemen arise from the question of what are the greatest dangers and challenges facing most countries. The answers aren't global climate change, terrorism, natural or man-made disasters and economic crises however much impact each can have."

Short Sharp Science: Shuttle launches humanoid robot into space

Short Sharp Science: Shuttle launches humanoid robot into space: "The space shuttle Discovery has launched into space on its final mission, carrying a crew of six people and one humanoid robot – the first to be sent into orbit.

Discovery launched at 1650 EST on Thursday from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The mission will deliver water, oxygen, and spare parts to the International Space Station. The shuttle and its crew are scheduled to return to Earth after 11 days in space, but will leave a humanoid robot called Robonaut 2 on the space station."

Did Viruses Invent DNA

3quarksdaily: "Cells across the tree of life are built with very similar components: A wall to keep everything in, DNA which stores the genome, and RNA and protein which take care of the mechanics and metabolism. These components are heavily interdependent, and it is an ongoing puzzle how the modern cell emerged from the prebiotic chemistry of early earth. (See Wikipedia here ). There are two major approaches to try to bridge this gap. The first is to try to synthesize biotic compounds from a soup of plausible precurors, as in Miller and Urey’s “lightning experiment.” [Miller shown performing the experiment in photo on the right.] The converse approach is to scrutinize living organisms for hints of their ancestors, specifically the Last Universal Cellular Ancestor (LUCA)."

Secret Space Plane Heading Back Into Orbit | Danger Room | Wired.com: "The U.S. Air Force’s most mysterious spacecraft is headed back into orbit after a four-month hiatus. The second copy of the Boeing-built X-37 robotic space plane is slated for launch, atop an Atlas V rocket, from Cape Canaveral in Florida sometime on Friday. Forecasts of bad weather could push the launch to Saturday.

In any event, the blast-off is sure to revive speculation regarding the curious, 29-foot-long spacecraft that lands like an airplane — just like a miniature, unmanned space shuttle."

What If the Biggest Solar Storm on Record Happened Today?

What If the Biggest Solar Storm on Record Happened Today?: "On February 14 the sun erupted with the largest solar flare seen in four years—big enough to interfere with radio communications and GPS signals for airplanes on long-distance flights.

As solar storms go, the Valentine's Day flare was actually modest. But the burst of activity is only the start of the upcoming solar maximum, due to peak in the next couple of years.

'The sun has an activity cycle, much like hurricane season,' Tom Bogdan, director of the Space Weather Prediction Center in Boulder, Colorado, said earlier this month at a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington, D.C.

'It's been hibernating for four or five years, not doing much of anything.' Now the sun is waking up, and even though the upcoming solar maximum may see a record low in the overall amount of activity, the individual events could be very powerful.

In fact, the biggest solar storm on record happened in 1859, during a solar maximum about the same size as the one we're entering, according to NASA."

Has the Earth’s sixth mass extinction arrived? | COSMOS magazine

Has the Earth’s sixth mass extinction arrived? | COSMOS magazine: "PARIS: Mankind may have unleashed the sixth known mass extinction in Earth's history, given the known species losses over the past few centuries and millennia, palaeobiologists have reported.

Over the past 540 million years, five mega-wipeouts of species have occurred through naturally-induced events. But the new threat is man-made, inflicted by habitation loss, over-hunting, over-fishing, the spread of germs and viruses and introduced species and by climate change caused by fossil-fuel greenhouse gases, says the study.

'It looks like modern extinction rates resemble mass extinction rates, even after setting a high bar for defining 'mass extinction’,” said researcher Anthony Barnosky from the University of California at Berkeley."

Alien invasion hoax fooled MoD, archive papers reveal | World news | The Guardian

Alien invasion hoax fooled MoD, archive papers reveal | World news | The Guardian: "A 'war of the worlds' rag week hoax by aircraft engineering apprentices was treated as a real alien invasion of Britain – for a few hours at least, according to newly released Ministry of Defence files.

The army's southern command, four police forces, bomb disposal units, RAF helicopters and the MoD's intelligence branch were all mobilised in the early hours of Monday 4 September 1967 to meet the threat.

They went into action after the police and RAF were flooded with calls from the public reporting the discovery of six small 'flying saucers' in locations in a perfect line across southern England from Sheppey to the Bristol Channel.

It was not until a Scotland Yard bomb disposal squad with orders to check one of the objects with portable X-ray equipment arrived at Bromley police station, south London, that the hoax was uncovered – the Ever Ready batteries were a bit of a giveaway."

Are You Ready For The Singularity? | DrJays.com Live | Fashion. Music. Lifestyle: "Some of the most interesting and engrossing science-fiction films and novels of all time have focused on the integration of human beings with machines and other such exploration of what actually constitutes life and consciousness.

By all accounts of a certain international discourse community, our wildest dreams (and possibly our worst nightmares) are about to come true.

Enter the Singularity, a point in the not-so-distant future in which computers become so complex they make the human brain obsolete and replace it in the few activities we can think of that it is still needed. Basically, because computers can decrease in size and increase in power every two years, we will eventually get to a point where they are capable of replacing and replicating everything about humanity—or so some think."

The quantum singularity

The quantum singularity: "Quantum computers are computers that exploit the weird properties of matter at extremely small scales. Many experts believe that a full-blown quantum computer could perform calculations that would be hopelessly time consuming on classical computers, but so far, quantum computers have proven devilishly hard to build. The few simple prototypes developed in the lab perform such rudimentary calculations that it’s sometimes difficult to tell whether they’re really harnessing quantum effects at all."

Is the Navy Trying to Start the Robot Apocalypse? | Danger Room | Wired.com: "Whenever the military rolls out a new robot program, folks like to joke about SkyNet or the Rise of the Machines. But this time, the military really is starting to venture into robot-apocalypse territory: swarms of little semi-autonomous machines that can team up to manufacture complex objects (including, presumably, more robots).

That’s right, the only thing scarier than a swarm of intelligent military mini robots is a swarm of intelligent military mini robots in control of the means of production. And your Navy is hard at work on making it a reality.

The U.S. Navy recently issued a proposal for aspiring mad scientists to build it “a coordinated and distributed swarm of micro-robots” capable of manufacturing “novel materials and structures.”"

BBC News - 'Tractor beam' is possible with lasers, say scientists: "A laser can act as a 'tractor beam', drawing small objects back toward the laser's source, scientists have said.

It is known that light can provide a 'push', for example in solar sails that propel spacecraft on a 'wind of light'.

Now, in a paper on the Arxiv server, researchers from Hong Kong and China have calculated the conditions required to create a laser-based 'pull'."

Secret UFO files show UK alien sightings have tailed off since their 1970s heyday | Mail Online: "The West was still in the grip of the Cold War.

But rather than scanning the skies for Soviet nuclear missiles, it seems, the British had their eye on a different menace.

Secret documents released yesterday show that the 1970s were the heyday of UFO spotting, with hundreds of people peering skywards for evidence of extraterrestrial life, though the below 2004 picture of multi-coloured lights in the sky suggest some alien enthusiasts still believe the truth is out there."

The Islamic Demolition of the Statue of Liberty

The Islamic Demolition of the Statue of Liberty: "One of the founding principles of the Islamic constitution is to ensure that all sovereignty and supremacy belongs solely to God; the Shari’ah is a practical manifestation of this sovereignty and supremacy because it seeks to establish His command in society.

The status of a nation subsequently does not depend on its number, strength or technological advancement, but rather how much it submits to the commands of God. When a nation seeks to be free from such commands, then ultimately it will meet its destruction.

The Statue of Liberty, designed by Frederic Bartholdi, stands on Liberty Island in New York Harbor; representing Libertas, the Roman (false) goddess of Freedom, it is symbolic of the rebellious nature of the US constitution that elevates the command of man over the command of God.

In Islam, the public veneration of idols and statues is strictly prohibited. This has forced s"

Are Middle East Revolutions a Prelude to Armageddon? - Yahoo! News

Are Middle East Revolutions a Prelude to Armageddon? - Yahoo! News: "COMMENTARY | Columnist Niall Ferguson wrote in this week's Newsweek, 'Time and again, Americans have hailed revolutions, only to fall strangely silent as those same revolutions proceeded to devour not only their own children but many other people's, too. In each case the body count was in the millions.'

He believes the current uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East, even though they are revolutions by people yearning for democracy, will end in a bloody carnage such as what happened with the French, Chinese and Russian revolutions.

We, as Americans, have been ingrained since birth with the belief freedom and democracy are ideals worth fighting for and defending.

What happened in Egypt and what is happening in the Middle East reveals how deep the longing is for freedom and democracy in the hearts of oppressed people.

The desire for a real representative government and freedom from economic slavery will continue to spread across the Arab world like wildfire.

Then there is the danger these revolutions will not end up creating free and democratic states, rather, a situation where the people will be worse off than before and our hold in the Middle East and North Africa forever shaken off."

NEPHILIM -- The Enigma of the Giants - Salem-News.Com

The Enigma of the Giants - Salem-News.Com: "(SALEM, Ore.) - Society's sphere of influence is like a campfire in the darkness, and we peer beyond the circle of light into the unknown. Beyond where the roads have ended, and only the brave and curious continue into the shadows of the forest, there are furtive sounds that cannot be explained, and cunning movements we cannot follow. It is here, in the sanctity of the wild places, that the ancient ones live, watching, and waiting.

From the legends of Northwest tribes, in the villages of Tibet, and on the Australian outback, it is whispered there were giants. In the forests of North America, their descendants have been glimpsed by a few who dared to speak about their experiences. Scientists have noted the existence of giant primates such Gigantopithecus and Meganthropus, but have been reluctant to assign them proper humanness in spite of so-called mega-tools that have been found associated with the fossil remains."

FoxNews.com - 'UFO' Lights Up Brazil Skies

FoxNews.com - 'UFO' Lights Up Brazil Skies: "A UFO spied in the skies over Sao Paulo has all of Brazil buzzing.

The amateur footage, shown on Brazilian TV station G1, shows blurry footage of a disc-shaped object hovering in the clouds for a minute or so -- before disappearing in a bright flash of light, followed by a trail of colorful bursts.

But is it an alien visitation, or merely the latest in a storied tradition of forgeries?

G1's anchors explain that two passersby saw the object as they were driving in their car, near the town of Agudos in Sao Paulo state. They hopped out of the car to shoot the video with their handheld camera.

According to the TV station, the cinematographers reported the earth shaking at about the same time the object vanishes in a blast of light, noting that other people reported the earth moving in the same general area."

The Dark Side of Flying Saucers - Are We Dealing With Something Evil?

The Dark Side of Flying Saucers - Are We Dealing With Something Evil?: "The mystery of just who is piloting the UFOs witnessed around the world since ancient times has many so-called “solutions.” Working from the available evidence, one can argue for any number of interpretations of the phenomenon, and those interpretations run the gamut from the UFOs being an early harbinger of the Second Coming of Christ to an invasion by cold-blooded, methodical aliens bent on colonizing our planet by the skillful combining of our DNA with theirs.

There is also this less frequently heard interpretation: that the present day UFO and alien abduction phenomenon are simply a modernized, more technological manifestation of the same demons that have tormented and sought to manipulate mankind since the beginning of time. In other words, the gray aliens are nothing new and their basic malevolent intent has never changed.

This statement, by no less an authority than Lord Hill-Norton, the late five-star admiral and the former head of the British Ministry of Defence, helps to put that perspective into focus: “UFOs are essentially a religious matter rather than a military threat, and furthermore there is certainly a degree of psychic involvement in almost every case. Quite often, however, such experiences are definitely antithetical to orthodox Christian beliefs.”"

How fossil DNA could bring dying species back from the brink

How fossil DNA could bring dying species back from the brink: "Countless animal and plant species teeter on the brink of extinction, but the DNA of their ancestors may point the way to survival. Paleobiologists are scouring fossil DNA to determine why species once thrived...and how they can do so again.

Yes, it's the rare instance in which fossil DNA doesn't lead to cloning. Instead, scientists in the new field of 'conservation paleobiology' are trying to glean all possible clues from the analysis of ancient DNA. For many species, there are even seemingly simple things that we don't know, like where that species lived a century ago, or how it managed to survive earlier drastic changes to its environment. Fossil DNA can reveal those answers.

Mike Bunce heads up the DNA Lab at Murdoch University in Western Australia. He explains what this new field aims to do:"

Response Precognitive dreaming should not be dismissed as coincidence | Comment is free | The Guardian

Response Precognitive dreaming should not be dismissed as coincidence| The Guardian: "It's fair for Professor Richard Wiseman to propose psychological explanations for the mystery of prophetic dreams (Can dreams predict the future?, G2, 22 February). However, for all its fantastical nature, many parapsychologists argue that precognition is a real phenomenon – along with telepathy, clairvoyance and some other paranormal phenomena.

Wiseman elaborates on the 'coincidence' theory that has been used to explain away precognitive dreams. We dream much more than we think, he points out, thus generating a jumble of different images. These are mostly forgotten, but one may be triggered by something we experience in the following days, leading us to suppose it 'magically predicted the future'. In reality it is just the laws of probability at work.

Dreams that foretell assassinations, accidents and earthquakes may be influenced by personal anxieties, Wiseman argues. If there is no record of the dream taking place before the event, the dreamers 'could have inadvertently twisted the dream to better fit the unfortunate events that transpired'."

Scientists Create 'Cyborg' DNA - Softpedia

Scientists Create 'Cyborg' DNA - Softpedia: "A group of researchers in Denmark is working on creating something entirely new on this planet – lifeforms that contain an improved version of the double-helix DNA. They are, for all intents and purposes, seeking to create stable, triple-helix deoxyribonucleic acid.

Since the acid was first discovered, experts have known that it features two strands, which dance around each other and form a distinctive, double-helix structure. All complex organisms contain DNA, and all of them feature variations of this configuration.

But the Danish team apparently finds this underwhelming, and is trying to introduce a third strand into DNA. They have already achieved success in their attempts, and they are currently engaged in solving some unforeseen problems that appeared as they created the “cyborg” DNA.

The group, which is based at the University of Copenhagen, wants to add a third peptide nucleic acid (PNA) strand to the two DNA strands that already exist in all organisms. The research team also has some well-grounded reasons for doing"

Drones Set to Invade National, State Parks | Danger Room | Wired.com: "When I was a kid going to summer camp in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, I counted myself lucky if I saw a black bear once or twice in a season. But campers may soon be able to regularly see something bigger and badder when climbing the High Peaks: Reaper drones flown by the New York Air National Guard’s 174th Fighter Wing based in Syracuse, New York.

And drones aren’t just buzzing over the Adirondacks. The proposal to begin training missions there is part of a bigger push to build a drone infrastructure for flying missions throughout the United States. So new drone bases are being built. The FAA is setting aside airspace for drone flights. And you can even get an accredited college degree in roboplane repair or operations. (No word whether you can get advanced placement credit for using drones in Call of Duty, but check this space for updates.)

Today, most U.S. drones operate overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan, with rumors of drone use in Yemen, Somalia, and other regions around the Horn of Africa. Most of these are flown by the military — and a few by the CIA. But because of United States law and regulation, neither of these groups can easily fly drones within the United States."

Nation & World | Nation of Islam convention to include talk of UFOs | Seattle Times Newspaper: "The Nation of Islam, long known for its promotion of black nationalism and self-reliance, now is calling attention to another core belief that perhaps isn't so well-known: the existence of UFOs.

When thousands of followers gather in suburban Chicago this weekend for the group's annual Saviours' Day convention, one of the main events will include a panel of scientists discussing worldwide UFO sightings, which they claim are on the rise.

The idea of seeking the divine in the skies is deeply rooted in the Chicago-based Nation of Islam, whose late leader Elijah Muhammad detailed in speeches and writings a massive hovering object loaded with weapons he called 'The Mother Plane' - although religion experts, Nation of Islam leaders and believers offer very different interpretations of what exactly happens aboard the plane, its role or how it fits into religious teachings.

It's one of the group's more misunderstood - and ridiculed - beliefs, something organizers took into account when planning the convention, which starts Friday and ends Sunday with Minister Louis Farrakhan's keynote address."
